THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE FRAMEWORK

DON’T SHIFT RESOURCES, SHIFT PARADIGMS.

Flume is dedicated to understanding the true nature of the human person and to make it known—not limited to our human essence, human dignity, human diversity, human equality, and human flourishing. In that way, Flume is not merely interested in data-driven decision making, best practices, evidence-based practices, industry standards, or even “common sense,” but rather with what inherently comes first—the philosophical and anthropological beginnings those concepts assume.

To that end, Flume has developed a uniquely integrative, first principled, and human-centered framework (what we call, The Human Experience Framework), which allows us to find humane, holistic, and flourishing-focused solutions to many of the social problems we face today—and not merely to rid ourselves of them, but to cultivate meaning, redemption, and the good, true, and beautiful in their place.

The Human Experience Framework is a philosophical and integrative framework developed by Flume. It is designed to help people understand the universal human experience—what all human beings share—while also making sense of the vast diversity of worldviews, cultures, and personal perspectives.

At its core, the framework distinguishes between: Universal human questions (what we all face as human beings), and our particular answers (how different individuals, cultures, and worldviews respond to those questions)

It treats the human person as having inherent dignity and explores how shared human realities (drives, moral intuitions, institutions, and experiences) are interpreted differently through various worldviews.

KEY CONCEPTS

The Human Experience Framework operates through several key distinctions and tools:

  • Universal vs. Particular. It separates what is common to all humans from what varies across individuals and cultures.

  • Inherent vs. Conventional. It discerns that which is an inherent matter of the universal human experience and the conventional ideas and modes of being varied socities impose and apply.

  • Worldview Analysis. It examines how different worldviews shape people’s understanding of human nature, morality, meaning, and society.

  • Shared Human Elements. It identifies common human drives, moral domains, and institutions that exist across all cultures.

  • The “LEGO” Analogy. All humans share the same basic “bricks” (fundamental aspects of human experience), but different worldviews arrange and interpret those bricks differently.

  • The Litmus Test. Central diagnostic questions to help people examine their own posture toward learning and dialogue.

WHAT IT CAN BE USED FOR

The Human Experience Framework is practical and can be applied in several ways:

  • Education & Training. As a foundational lens for courses and professional developmentFirst responder training, social work CE, leadership development.

  • Cultural & Public Discourse. To reduce polarization and foster more humane conversationsWorkshops, writing, public speaking.

SUMMARY

The Human Experience Framework is Flume’s core intellectual tool. It is a manifestation of the mode of being for our varied divisions, works, words, ideas, and efforts flow—like a flume, taking the inherent nature and potential of the human person and the human experience, and fostering its flourishing even further. It helps people:

  • See what unites all human beings (dignity, shared drives, universal questions)

  • Understand why people and cultures differ so significantly

  • Engage differences with greater clarity and less hostility

  • Pursue truth over tribal loyalty or comfort

  • Build solutions that lead to deeper, more sustainable human flourishing
